Successful Discussion Panel LUMC Global x LAP
September 26 the discussion panel took place at Vrij in Leiden. The turn-out was great with nice drinks and snacks. We had some interesting discussions about the struggles of being an international PhD candidate in the Netherlands, but also about the enormous pros of going abroad. Thanks to all who were able to join!

LAP is looking for new Board Members!
As a general board member, you will attend board meetings, and support the overall functioning of the board and its objectives. The LAP board currently consists of 10 enthusiastic PhD Candidates. While everybody has tasks of preference, we have board meetings every 2-3 weeks, and regular meetings with the Dean, the Graduate School, and other LUMC parties.

In return, you get to learn about the ins and outs of the LUMC, work with a diverse board of motivated fellow PhD candidates who want to make a difference for the PhD community, and you can have the chance to bring your ideas to life and see them flourish in practice! We look forward to meeting you! Send us an e-mail and we can plan a meeting to get to know each other!

Departmental PhD Representations
Last week, LAP met with the Departmental PhD Representations and the Graduate School. We discussed the new PhD Thesis Framework, ongoing events, and shared experiences. Are you interested in setting up a PhD representation at your department? Do not hesitate to contact us for support!

PhD Safe Space Sweet
We are happy to announce that Bob Siegerink (Graduate School) recently has been awarded the Special Edition Safe Space Award for his and Graduate School's effort in creating the PhD Thesis Framework 🎉 🍰 This significant achievement results from months of work, discussions, and consultations between the Graduate School and PhD candidates. The framework addresses PhD community concerns, recognizes the unique nature of each PhD trajectory, yet provides consistent criteria across all departments. Its guidelines support ongoing conversations between PhD candidates and their supervisors to work towards a solid thesis, creating a safe space between PhD candidates and supervisors. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition for setting the foundation for more flexibility in the PhD trajectory!

Do you have someone who made a difference in your PhD journey? This could be a fellow PhD candidate, supervisor, librarian or someone else at the LUMC whose contribution should not go unnoticed. Nominate them for the next PhD Safe Space Sweet! Share their story and let us celebrate the unsung heroes of academia.
