LAP Newsletter

March 2026

Dear fellow PhD Candidates,

PhD Day, on April 30, is coming closer! 🎉

This year's theme Connecting Minds promises a day packed with inspiring speakers and interactive workshops. Registration is now possible! The registration form includes a full overview of all sessions, and that's also where you can choose the workshops you'd like to join.

We hope to see you there!

Best wishes,
The LAP Board

General information

LAP is looking for a new Secretary!
As Secretary of the LAP board you will manage incoming e-mails, from questions by fellow PhDs to (promotion) requests, ensuring everyone receives a timely and helpful response. During board meetings, you are the notekeeper, keeping track of action points and decisions being made. You're often the first to receive important updates and relevant information, which you share with the rest of the board members.

The entire board has meetings every 2-3 weeks, and regular meetings with the Dean, Graduate School, and other LUMC parties. In return, you get to learn about the ins and outs of the LUMC, work with a diverse board of motivated fellow PhDs, who want to make a difference for the PhD community. You have the chance to bring your own ideas to life! Send us an e-mail in case you're interested, and we can plan a meeting to get to know each other!

Ridderprint Workshop (DEADLINE APPROACHING)
We are pleased to invite you to the Innovative Thesis Workshop, organized by Ridderprint. This workshop will offer practical guidance on how to enhance the design, formatting, and printing of your thesis. Whether you're just starting or in the final stages of your PhD, this session will provide key insights to help you present your work in the best possible way.

📅 Wednesday, March 11
⏰ 12:30 - 13:30
📍 J-01-116
Free lunch provided!
Sign up here

For PhDs in the final stages: Ridderprint advises to contact them around three months before your defense. Design, printing, and delivery together can take up to 6 weeks. Don't miss this opportunity to gain expert advice and network with fellow PhD candidates. We look forward to seeing you there!

Printing your Thesis with fellow PhDs
LAP facilitates a spreadsheet where you can see which fellow PhD candidates are working on their thesis. The printing companies may be able to offer a better price when printing in a larger group!

Looking back at a successful Masterclass of The Vitality Box!
The Masterclass on work-life balance was a great success! The session focused on how to achieve optimal recovery and recharge effectively in a busy work life. Did you know that participation in The Vitality Box is free of charge? If you're interested in lifestyle coaching in e.g. relaxation and stress-management, work life balance, connection with others, healthy eating, physical activity, or sleep, send an e-mail to The Vitality Box!

Recognition and Rewards 🎉
We are proud to celebrate PhD students who have gone the extra mile, both academically and socially. The Recognition and Rewards award highlights individuals who not only show dedication in their research but also contributed positively to the community around them.
Congratulations to this year’s award recipients! Your hard work, commitment, and willingness to support others truly make a difference. Thank you for setting a great example and helping create a supportive and inspiring environment for everyone.

Summer Schools (DEADLINE APPROACHING)
Una Europa strongly promotes multidisciplinary and international collaboration around global challenges — this year’s central theme being Sustainability. Join a summer school, or travel to Helsinki to gain inspiration and tools for better collaboration between academics, staff and students. Application Deadline is 13 March.
