LAP is looking for a new Secretary!
We are looking for an enthusiastic new board member to join our team! As Secretary of the LAP board you will manage incoming e-mails, from questions by fellow PhDs to (promotion) requests, ensuring everyone receives a timely and helpful response. During board meetings, you are the notekeeper, keeping track of action points and decisions being made. You're often the first to receive important updates and relevant information, which you share with the rest of the board members.
The entire board has meetings every 2-3 weeks, and regular meetings with the Dean, Graduate School, and other LUMC parties. In return, you get to learn about the ins and outs of the LUMC, work with a diverse board of motivated fellow PhDs, who want to make a difference for the PhD community. You have the chance to bring your own ideas to life! Send us an e-mail in case you're interested, and we can plan a meeting to get to know each other!

New Collective Labour Agreement
A new collective labour agreement (CLA) for the UMCs has been reached. Several issues relevant to PhD candidates were discussed by the involved parties (among others Promovendi Network Netherlands). The following changes are relevant for PhD candidates:
- Starting April 1st new onderzoekers in opleiding (OIO) will be granted an employment contract for the full duration of their PhD trajectory. In principle, this means a four-year contract based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE).
- A structural salary increase of 3.5% effective July 1, 2026, followed by an additional 3.5% increase from May 1, 2027.
- The promotiebonus (a €750 bonus awarded upon completing the PhD within the contract period), previously available only to OIOs, will now also apply to arts-onderzoekers.
- Student loan repayment will be included in the Work-Related Costs Scheme (WKR). This allows employees to repay student debt through a gross-to-net arrangement with a tax advantage.
PhD Psychologists Newsletter
Supporting and/or supervising PhD candidates involves more than guiding their research. It also means helping create an environment where they can grow, communicate openly, and maintain their well-being during a demanding stage of their careers. In this Spring edition of the PhD Psychologists Newsletter (March–May 2026), they share resources and reflections that may support this goal. In this issue, you will find:
- Information about the updated webpage, where PhD candidates can easily access their services, activities, and resources.
- A recommendation for PhD supporters on leading supervision conversations with kindness and clarity.
- An overview of upcoming workshops, trainings, and peer support groups.
- Insights on building safe and supportive supervision relationships.
- A testimonial from a PhD candidate describing how psychological support helped them develop tools to navigate challenging conversations with supervisors.
