LAP Newsletter

July 2025

Dear fellow PhD Candidates,

Last month, we were looking for a new board member to take over the newsletter, and we are happy to announce that this mission has been accomplished! The LAP board at the bottom of the page has been updated. But, no need to feel sad, because we are still looking for additional members to be able to keep organizing fun events for our PhD community.

We have had some beautiful, sunny days (with the NATO-top out of the way), so we hope the sunshine has filled you up with new, fresh energy, wanting to join the board!

Best wishes,
The LAP Board

Tips and Tricks: English Communication within the LUMC environment
With a right-click of the mouse button, you can translate any page into English. Albinusnet now has its own function by clicking on 'Mijn Instellingen' and 'Switch language' (see second image). Sadly, not every paragraph can switch to English yet... so, if you want to read everything, you can still use the translate function.

PhD Safe Space Sweet
Do you have someone who made a difference in your PhD journey? This could be a fellow PhD candidate, supervisor, librarian or someone else at the LUMC whose contribution should not go unnoticed. Nominate them for the next PhD Safe Space Sweet! Share their story and let us celebrate the unsung heroes of academia.

LAP is looking for a new Board Member!
As a general board member, you will attend board meetings, and support the overall functioning of the board and its objectives. The LAP board currently consists of 10 enthusiastic PhD Candidates. While everybody has tasks of preference, we have board meetings every 2-3 weeks, and regular meetings with the Dean, the Graduate School, and other LUMC parties.

In return, you get to learn about the ins and outs of the LUMC, work with a diverse board of motivated fellow PhD candidates who want to make a difference for the PhD community, and you can have the opportunity to implement your ideas and see them flourish in practice! We look forward to meeting you! Send us an e-mail and we can plan a meeting to get to know each other!

PhD thesis spreadsheet
Click here for a public google spreadsheet in which you can leave your contact details to get in touch with other PhD candidates who are printing their thesis soon to get a group discount. It is your own responsibility to get in touch with each other and organize the group discount with the printing company.
