LUMC Launches New PhD Thesis Framework!
The new Leiden University Medical Center PhD Thesis Framework is here and designed to set clear expectations for the content of a typical thesis. This framework is part of the Academia In Motion program, encouraging team science and making research more accessible to society.
What’s New in the Thesis Framework?
- Article-based thesis with 3-6 PhD project chapters.
- A theme-focused approach reflecting the full PhD trajectory (3-4 FTE years).
- Leading contributions captured via the CRediT system, with one chapter to be peer-reviewed and published.
- Room for team science through the portfolio section and optional collaboration chapters.
Implementation
The new PhD Thesis Framework will officially come into effect on 1 October 2025. From that date, all ongoing PhD trajectories will be expected to follow the new framework. The framework is the result of extensive input from various stakeholders, including LAP, Research Council, Graduate School LUMC, and more.
